Yama learning is excited to announce their all day summer camps in 2018.   This summer your kids can become an engineer, coder, writer, or doctor by joining in YAMA summer camps offered at Waubonsie Valley High School or Metea Valley High School.

Note: Please note that in July the camp is only offered in Metea Valley.

Food: Children are supposed to bring two snacks, lunch and water bottle for the whole day. We do not provide food.

1) Country Fair: Concept, Build, Code, Explore

This summer, build a whole country fair using LEGO We Do 2.0, exploring the physics, mechanics, and engineering behind the rides. Kids will start thinking like engineers and build the models which represent the real-world mechanics and will also apply their knowledge with new designs and models. Learn about the importance of teamwork, science and discover the joy in learning.

2) Engineering for Kids

Dive deep into the science of engineering by designing and building a hybrid car- boat which will not only drive in water but also drive on land. By building this mechanical boat, students will learn the science of electric circuits, density, mass, equilibrium, buoyancy, motion, speed and force. At the end of the project they will race their boats to understand why some boats are better than others. Students will work in teams mimicking the real world problem solving.

3) Make a Bot

This summer just don’t play with robots- BUILD them! Have your kids dive into the world of building robots from scratch. In this camp kids will learn to build a robot from scratch understanding the mechanical and electronic parts behind the creation. Kids will also be amazed by what their little creation can do by coding them to follow lines, avoid obstacles by sensing their environment using sensors, solve the mazes and finally participate in a soccer competition. Kids will go through the different phases of Software development life cycle implementing the requirement gathering, analysis of the requirement, designing, coding, testing and debugging and implementation of their development.

4) Adventures in Robotics

Imagine, create, and make it go. Explore the fun filled world of robotics and Engineering using LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Base Set and software. Venture the world of coding by combining the versatility of the LEGO building system and intuitive drag-and-drop programming software. Have fun working in teams and with buddies. Learn the importance of teamwork. You will also work on previous years FLL challenge.

5) Merging Hardware and Software: Building their own laptops and Learn to Code with Python

Kids will learn about the different components of laptops and use this knowledge to build their own laptops. They will boot up their laptop with a Linux based operating system and will learn to Code with python. Through this course Kids will understand how engineering, hardware and software merge into a computer laptop which they can use

6) Micro Life on Earth and STEM

Do you know Life on earth is just not all what we see with our eyes? Students will explore this world of tiny things which are not visible to our naked eyes but make up the life on earth. How does light work? Do you know why plants turn pale and tall without light? Students will explore the STEAM of this tiny world from atoms to molecules to circuits to cells to this world of life. Get to do hands-on experiments of culturing bacteria, find out how plants control their growth.  Learn Newton’s laws of motion in real life and understand the chemistry of matter and its changes.

7) Reading Writing Leadership and Debate

A week-long session of total reading, writing and communication camp challenges students to learn the fundamentals of comprehension, writing and communication. The skills would include vocabulary building, learning the strategies of comprehension and basics of good writing. In addition to reading and writing, students will learn the basics of proper presentation, communication and debate. The skills learnt at this camp will be highly useful in their school and social life. They will understand the importance of self, write well and put forth their ideas in a correct fashion.

8) Doctor in Training

This course is geared towards kids who are interested in pursuing a career in medical sciences in future. They will be introduced to human anatomy, skeletal system, parts of the nervous system, five senses (smell, sight, taste, vision, hearing), heart and stomach and how they function. They will be engaging in practical activities such as hearing and taking pulses, examining noses and ears. The children will also be taught to read the basics of reading an x – ray. Students will also perform a heart’s (sheep) dissection and explore the science behind the blood flow and a lot more which will ultimately culminate into designing and engineering an artificial heart.
