Dreams come in all shape and sizes –dreams are not limited. Whether you are an able-bodied person or someone who needs a little help – all of us 011213BasketBall-156dream –dream to live better , dream for a better tomorrow – WDSRA  works day and night to make some simple dreams of the kids and adult with special needs.

WDSRA – Western DuPage Special Recreation Association is an association that serves the recreational needs of the special need kids and adults in 011213BasketBall-156the Naperville area.

It had started as a one-summer camp in 1977 and now has grown to serve more than 4,500 people. They have engaging sports, arts, crafts programs for people of all ages with any kind of disability –ADD, ADHD, Autism/Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Behavioral and Learning Challenges, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Developmentally Delayed, Geriatric, Mentally Challenged, and any type of physical disability, to name a few of them.

WDSRA is an extension of nine park districts ( Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago , Wheaton and Winfield) offering:

  • More than 1,500 programs, trips and special events per year
  • Safe learning environment
  • Caring, dedicated, trained staff
  • High staff to individual ratio
  • Wide range of programs appealing to a variety of interests
  • Inclusion services for park district programs are designed specifically for each child
  • Programs that grow with you—preschoolers to seniors

WDSRA is run with the hard work of many full-time and part-time employees and also with the countless hours of active volunteers .  It is a good place for the high school kids to earn their community service credit. The lessons learned here would be many-fold.WDSRA offers programs at the Naperville Park District’s newly opened center on  95th street.

WDSRA has been a key element in the lives of kids and adult with some kind of disability. It adds many dimensions to their day-to-day life.
